Conference at Supreme Court in February 2026 to examine representation of women in judiciary

Indian Women in Law (iWiL) will hold a National Conference on February 8, 2026 at the Supreme Court of India focusing on the question of women’s representation and leadership within the Indian judiciary.

The conference, titled “Bridging the Bench Gap: Women and Judicial Leadership” will take place at the Additional Building Complex of the Supreme Court auditorium from 10.30 am to 4.00 pm.

The conference is intended to serve as a platform for members of the judiciary, senior advocates, practising lawyers, academics and policymakers to engage in structured discussions on achieving equality on the Bench and strengthening judicial diversity.

The proposed deliberations will centre on themes of equality and justice in judicial appointments, the need for balanced benches, adequate representation of women on the dais and the wider impact of inclusive benches on the justice delivery system.

The organisers have indicated that the discussions will also address systemic and institutional challenges that continue to restrict women’s progression to positions of judicial leadership despite their growing presence in the legal profession.

The conference will be organised under the banner of Indian Women in Law by Senior Advocates Mahalakshmi Pavani and Shobha Gupta.
