A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition has been moved in the Delhi High Court seeking directions to be issued to the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government to furnish details about funds collected in Chief Minister Relief Fund and spent towards COVID-19 relief for citizens. .The petition by advocate Pratyush Prasanna and Sameet Thakkar also prayed for a court-monitored investigation into the alleged siphoning of funds donated to the Lieutenant Governor/ Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMDRF) for COVID-19 relief..Further, the Court was also urged to direct the Government of Delhi to immediately stop advertising on their achievements or work carried out in this regard. ."It is submitted that the ‘legitimate expectation’ of the citizens of Delhi who contributed towards the fight against the COVID-19 virus was that the State Government of Delhi would utilize the contributions towards preparing for improvement of the health infrastructure including but not limited to ensuring adequate oxygen beds, testing kits, PPE kits, ICU beds, ventilators, etc. However, to the shock of the people of Delhi, it was only in the midst of 2nd wave of COVID-19, in 2021, that the people of Delhi realized that there is not only an acute shortage of hospital beds but also other necessities such as testing kits and oxygen supply", read the plea..The petition further states that there are reports raising clear suspicion over the government's lackadaisical handling of second wave of COVID-19 outbreak and the misutilization of public money donated to the COVID-19 Relief Fund..The horror that has resulted due to the sheer negligence and non-empathetic approach of the Government of Delhi is unpardonable, the petition states. .The petition is filed by Advocate Singha Singh.
