The parents of the deceased rape victim from in the Delhi Cantonment rape case have moved the Delhi High Court seeking protection for themselves and other witnesses in the case..Pertinently the petitioners also sought a court-monitored probe into the incident by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The parents further prayed that a judicial inquiry should be conducted into the lapses in administrative action in the case..The petitioners submitted that they belong to poorest section of the society and the deceased was their only daughter. The 9-year-old girl had gone to fetch water at a cooler installed at a crematorium in Delhi's Purana Nangal area when a priest at the crematorium along with three others allegedly raped and killed the girl.The plea said that the accused persons offered them ₹20,000 for their silence mum and threatened them of adverse consequences if they reported the matter to Police. As the petitioners did not adhere to the ploy of the accused, the accused forcibly threw the body of their deceased child into fire, the plea said..The plea also raised allegations against the police claiming that when the police was informed of the matter, their sole focus was to hush up or sabotage the matter instead of booking the accused persons. The petition stated that the parents of the deceased were taken to the police station and tortured and pressurised by the police to compromise the case. It was after much effort, the police filed an FIR under Sections 304/ 341/ 20 of IPC.The scene of the crime remained unattended and people were allowed to enter the place freely, the same can be proved by the CCTV cameras installed around the Mazar, it was submitted.Further, the petitioners along with other witnesses are being harassed by various groups with vested interests and there is an eminent threat to their life, the petition stated.
