Delhi Riots: Delhi Court grants interim bail to former Congress municipal councillor on account of her wedding


A Delhi Court recently granted interim bail to a Delhi riots accused and former Congress municipal councillor, Ishrant Jahan on account of her wedding. (Ishrat Jahan vs State)

Additional Sessions Judge, Dharmender Rana released Jahan on interim bail for a period of ten days, starting June 6.

Ishrant was arrested in March 2020 in connection with Delhi riots FIR No 59/2020 for alleged commission of offences under Sections 147/148/149/120B/124A/302/307/353/186/212/395/427//435/436/452/454//109/153A/34 IPC, Section 3/4 of Prevention of Damage to Public Porperty Act, Sections 25/27 of Arms Act and Secions 13/16/17/18 UAPA.

In her bail plea before the Court, Ishrat Jahan sought her release on the ground that her marriage with one Farhan Hashmi was fixed for June 12.

It was added that no violence has been attributed to her in the FIR and no weapon has been recovered as well.

The Court was informed that Jahan was an advocate and a supporter of peaceful protests.

The factum of Jahan's wedding on June 12 was verified by the Delhi Police.

The Court thus ordered,

Considering the factum of scheduled marriage of applicant/accused Ishrat Jahan, she be released on interim bail ofa period of ten days i.e. wef from 10.06.2020 to 19.06.2020 upon furnishing personal bond and surety bond in the sum of Rs one lakh with two sureties each in the like amount to the satisfaction of the Ld MM/Duty MM/Roster Judge concerned.
