One of the Professors from the Jawaharlal Nehru University has moved the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate seeking registration of FIRs with respect to the attack on the teachers, students and staff of the Jawaharlal University on the evening of January 5.

The plea has been preferred by Professor Sucharita Sen who suffered injuries during the violence.

Filed through Advocates Adit S Puri, Tara Narula and Kirti Awasthi, the plea seeks a direction to the Delhi Police to register FIRs in terms of Section 156(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure,1973.

On January 16, the Metropolitan Magistrate at Patiala House Complex, Ankita Lal directed the Delhi Police to file its status report in response to the plea.

Sen was represented by Advocates Adit S Pujari, Kirti Awasthi, Viren Bansal, Tusharika Mattoo. The matter would be heard next March 25.

Last month, three JNU Professors Ameet Parameswaran, Atul Sood, Shukla Vinayak Sawant had moved the Delhi High Court to preserve the CCTV footage, WhatsApp data and other information with respect to the Janaury 5 violence on JNU campus.

It was alleged that two WhatsApp groups, namely 'Friends of RSS' and 'Unity against Left', were involved in planning the attack.

Their petition was disposed of after directions were issued by a Single Judge Bench of Justice Brijesh Sethi to preserve all relevant evidence.
