Online Classes: Karnataka HC issues notice in plea seeking free laptops/tablets for students from economically weaker sections

The petition relies on a study that indicates that in rural Karnataka, only a dismal 2% of households have access to a computer and only 8.3% of households have access to internet facilities.

The Karnataka High Court recently issued notice in a PIL seeking directions to the government to provide laptops, tablets, and other digital resources free of cost to enable school children belonging to economically weaker sections attend online classes.

The plea was filed by AA Sanjeev Narrain, Arvind Narrain and Murali Mohan to ensure that even children belonging to economically weaker sections are equipped to attend online classes being conducted amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
