Recipe for trouble: Delhi court restrains FoodInfotech from copying FoodTechBiz's content

A Delhi court has restrained Stand Point Media (OPC) Pvt Ltd, operator of FoodInfotech.com (defendant), from publishing articles and photographs alleged to have been plagiarised from rival platform FoodTechBiz.com [Foodtech Biz (OPC) Pvt Ltd & Anr v/s Stand Point Media (OPC) Pvt Ltd & Ors]..The interim order came on a plea by FoodTechBiz (OPC) Pvt Ltd (FoodTechBiz/ plaintiff) and its founder-editor Mandeep Kaur, who claimed the defendants engaged in “deliberate, intentional and continuing infringement” of their copyright.District Judge Hemani Malhotra of Patiala House Court, while granting an ex-parte ad interim injunction, said:“The plaintiffs have made out a prima facie case and balance of convenience in their favour. Irreparable harm will be caused to the plaintiffs if urgent relief is not granted.”.FoodTechBiz, a B2B digital platform covering the food, beverages, packaging and food technology sectors, alleged that FoodInfotech, not only used a deceptively similar name but also misappropriated exclusive content published on FoodTechBiz, starting from early 2022. Despite assurances from FoodInfotech in April 2022 that remedial action would be taken, the alleged infringement continued.The plaintiffs pointed to an example from May 2025, when FoodTechBiz was exclusively invited to cover the prestigious IFFA Fair at Frankfurt, Germany. Mandeep Kaur conducted and published interviews with Irene Plats, Global Marketing & Sustainability Director at Essentia Protein Solutions and Ankit Doshi, Director of Vishakha Polyfab Pvt Ltd, along with original photographs. FoodTechBiz alleged that the very next day, FoodInfotech copied the photographs and stories with superficial alterations and published them as its own..Despite a legal notice dated May 19, which was acknowledged but ignored by FoodInfotech, the defendants allegedly continued with plagiarism. The plaintiff argued that such conduct not only violated their copyright but also diverted commercial opportunities, misled clients and eroded brand identity.After reviewing comparison charts, emails, and original material produced in court, judge Malhotra concluded that urgent relief was warranted.
