Supreme Court grants bail to person charged under UAPA, says HC denial of bail based on Public Prosecutor's statement not "strictly correct"

The accused, a Jodhpur resident, was facing trial under the UAPA for aiding the escape of terror suspect Barkat Ali, from whose house explosive material was recovered by the police.

The Supreme Court yesterday granted bail to a man charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, while stating that the Rajasthan High Court had erred in relying on the public prosecutor's statement that a prima facie was made out against the accused.
