Vacancies in Central Excise Settlement Commission 'alarming'; Delhi High Court seeks status report from Central government

The Court was informed that there are no members in any of the four benches except a chairman at Delhi and over 190 settlement applications are pending before the Commission.

The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed the Central government to file a status report on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition seeking directions for appointment of members to the Settlement Commission under Central Excise Act [Yashpal Singh v Union of India and Anr].
