Collegium recommends two advocates for elevation to Madhya Pradesh High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended two new judges for the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Advocates Vishal Dhagat and Vishal Mishra have been recommended for elevation after the High Court had recommended five names in September last year.

With reference to the “age factor” of Vishal Mishra, the resolution states,

“As far as age factor of Shri Vishal Mishra is concerned, the Collegium is fully satisfied with the justification given by the High Court Collegium while recommending his name.”

The Collegium rejected three other names recommended by the High Court – Divesh Jain, Sanjay Sarwate and Archana Kher. The resolution states,

“…having regard to all relevant factors and the material placed in the file, the Collegium is of the considered view that the proposal for their elevation deserves to be remitted to the Madhya Pradesh High Court.”

Should the two recommendations go through, the High Court will have a working strength of 35 judges, with 18 vacancies.
