The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notice to Mewar royal family members Padmaja Kumar Parmar and her sister Bhargavi Kumari Mewar on a plea filed by their brother Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar seeking control of their late father’s assets.
Justice Subramonium Prasad also issued notice to the siblings’ mother, Vijayraj Kumari Mewar and the State of Rajasthan.
"I am issuing notice in the matter. You file your objections," the Court said.
The dispute between Padmaja Kumari Parmar and her brother Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar stems from a legal battle over the inheritance and control of properties belonging to their late father, Arvind Singh Mewar, a member of the erstwhile Mewar royal family of Udaipur.
It is stated that Arvind Singh Mewar left a will in February 2025 naming his son Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar as the sole heir to his self-acquired properties. Padmaja Kumari and Bhargavi Kumari are contesting the will.
Both Lakshyaraj Singh and Padmaja Kumar have filed testamentary cases in the High Court seeking letters of administration over their father’s properties.
The Court today issued notice on Lakshyaraj’s case.
Justice Prasad remarked that he may hear Padmaja Kumar’s plea after deciding Lakshyaraj’s case.
Senior Advocate Arvind Nigam appeared for Padmaja Kumari and stressed that both cases should be heard together.
“They are relying on the document which they purport to be a will. Onus is on them to establish the validity of the will in the proceedings that they have initiated now. If they fail, you are saying we should come at that stage. But they are here, and we are here. Both these matters can be tried together,” he said.
Nigam cited several judgments to buttress his case.
Senior Advocate Sadeep Sethi appeared for Bhargavi Kumar Mewar and stated that the will propounded by Lakshyaraj Singh is illegal.
Lakshyaraj Singh was represented through Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, who challenged the maintainability of Padmaja Kumari’s plea.
After hearing the parties, the Court listed the case for further hearing on February 12, when Nayar will make his submissions.
Senior Advocates Arvind Nigam, Suhail Dutt and Abhishek Malhotra with advocates Anuradha Dutt, Chaitanya Kaushik, Suman Yadav, Kunal Dutt, Raghav Dutt, Avinash K Singh, Seema Mehta, Vidhi Uppal, Saurabh Pal, Kartikay Dutta and Anukriti Trivedi appeared for Padmaja Kumari Parmar.
Bhargavi Kumari was represented by Senior Advocates Sandeep Sethi and Arun Kathpalia as well as advocates Bani Brar, Tahira Kathpalia and Aditya Dhupar.
Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayyar along with advocates Rashmi Kant, Rishi Agrawala, Rohan Dakshini, Pratham Vir Agarwal, Jay Sanklecha, Anuja Bhansali, Urvi Gupta, Nilay Gupta and Prabhav Bahuguna represented Lashyaraj Singh Mewar.
