COVID-19: Nearly Rs 2.5 crores disbursed to advocates in need by Bar Council of Delhi; Application window to re-open for three days

Pursuant to its decision to provide assistance to advocates facing financial difficulties, Bar Council of Delhi has disbursed nearly Rs 2.5 crores.

A sum of Rs 5000 each was credited in the bank account of the advocates who had applied to the Bar Council of Delhi till April 2.

Information to this effect was provided by the Bar Council of Delhi in a release issued by it.

Due to the persistent demands from advocates, the Bar Council of Delhi has unanimously resolved to open the application window for 3 days, starting May 12, it is informed.

Online applications are provided on Bar Council of Delhi website and can be submitted through a weblink till May 15.

Those who have already received financial assistance are not eligible to apply, it is clarified.

For transparency, the list of applicants would be displayed on the website of Bar Council of Delhi.

It is also informed that a sum of Rs 45 lakh has also been contributed from Bar Council of India Advocates Welfare Fund towards the cause.

In March, the Bar Council of Delhi had decided to provide assistance to the extent of Rs 5,000 to advocates facing financial difficulties due to COVID-19 lockdown.

The Scheme was arranged only for advocates who were unable to meet their day-to-day expenses for food or medicines.

Pursuant to its announcement, Senior Advocates N Hairharan and AS Chandiok made a contribution of Rs 5 lakh each towards the fund.
