PIL in Delhi High Court against ongoing strike of DTC drivers

An advocate has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition before the Delhi High Court raising concerns over the disruption caused by the ongoing strike of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) workers [Ami Sisodia vs Government of NCT of Delhi & Ors].

The matter is likely to be heard by a bench of the Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia on Wednesday.

Bus drivers, conductors and other personnel associated with the operation of public buses, have been on strike since September 15 to demand an increase in their wages and other benefits.

The PIL is seeking directions for urgent restoration, maintenance and continuity of public bus transport services in Delhi.

The petitioner Ami Sisodia states that due to the unavailability of free public transport provided to women, she has to resort to taking expensive alternate modes of transport to commute.

The plea argues that the strike impacts lakhs of residents, students, daily-wage workers, salaried employees, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, patients and economically weaker commuters who depend upon affordable public transportation.

Further, it states that the strike has shifted the pressure of commuters on the Delhi Metro services.

The petition has been filed through advocate Vikrant Dabas.
