Plea before Delhi High Court against CAT 2024 results

A petition has been filed before the Delhi High Court challenging the results of the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024 for admission to Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other business schools [Aditya Kumar Mallick v/s Union Of India And Anr]..The matter was taken up on December 24 by a Bench comprising Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav, when the Court sought the responses of the Union Ministry of Education and the CAT convenor, IIM Calcutta which had conducted the exam.It was then briefly heard today by a vacation Bench comprising Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, when the Court noted that the replies have not yet come on record.The case has, therefore, been posted for hearing next on January 3, 2025..The CAT 2024 exam was conducted on November 24. A provisional answer key was released on December 3.An aspirant who took the exam has raised an objection to the provisional answer key, contending that there was an error in an answer declared for a question from the comprehension section of the exam paper.Despite the objection, the aspirant states that the final answer key was released with no change in the provisional answer key.The aspirant says that his objection is supported by distinguished experts and faculty members of various CAT coaching centres.His plea adds that a total of 272 objections were raised by various candidates on the comprehension section of the CAT paper..He has contended that IIM Calcutta hurriedly declared the results on December 19 without giving any reason or affording him time to take legal recourse for redressing his grievance.The aspirant argues that the result was expected in the second week of January 2025, and the haste in declaring results in December "speaks volumes."He has, therefore urged the High Court to set aside the results declared in December and to appoint an Expert Committee to ascertain the correct answers.The petition has been filed through Advocate Praveen Kumar Singh of Lex Remedium..The vacation Bench slated to hear the matter on January 3 comprises Justices Tara Vitasta Ganju and Anish Dayal..Follow Bar and Bench channel on WhatsAppDownload the Bar and Bench Mobile app for instant access to the latest legal news.
