Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid: Ram Mandir Babri Masjid: Deadline for Mediation extended till August 15 by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court today allowed the Mediation Committee set up to decide the Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid dispute at Ayodhya to complete the process by August 15.

This was pursuant to the request made by the mediation committee to that effect.

The case is being heard by a Constitution Bench of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and Abdul Nazeer.

The Court noted that the committee has submitted its report as directed by the court and has sought time till August 15 to complete the process.

“We are inclined to allow the same”, CJI Ranjan Gogoi remarked before passing the order to that effect.

CJI also said that the Court is not inclined to disclose the progress made by the committee at this stage.

CJI Gogoi remarked,

“We won’t disclose the progress made by the committee at this stage, let it remain confidential.”

After passing an order to this effect, the Bench adjourned the matter.

On March 8, the Court referred the matter to mediation. The mediation panel is chaired by former Supreme Court judge Justice FMI Kalifulla, and will also comprise spiritualist Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and Senior Advocate Sriram Panchu.
