SAM strikes in Bombay! – Shardul may have 3 offices in Mumbai, looking to acquire Zia’s Express Towers office

Shardul Shroff is entering the Mumbai market in style. According to authoritative sources, the elder Shroff’s Amarchand Mangaldas is likely to have three offices in Mumbai. In fact, if Mumbai’s property consultants are to be believed Shardul is acquiring Zia Mody’s office in Nariman Point’s Express Towers. AZB & Partners shall be moving to Lower Parel’s Peninsula Corporate Park next month.

The Express Towers office, spread over 25,000 square feet and two floors, used to house more than 200 lawyers at AZB & Partners. If he does take up the entire space, Shardul Shroff is clearly going to be a strong competitor to younger brother Cyril Shroff.

Shardul’s firm in Mumbai will also have two other offices – one in Lower Parel, and one in the Fort area close to the Bombay High Court.

The Lower Parel office, which is where most Mumbai law firms have an office, will mean that Shardul and Cyril may well become neighbors, and it will be interesting to see how their non-compete clauses, if any, will work out.

Clearly, Shardul is ready to storm the Bombay market, a region that was previously left to the younger Shroff.

Recently, Cyril has also formalised his new partnership ‘Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas’ with seven new Equity Partners including Amey Pathak, Arjun Lall, Nivedita Rao, Santosh Janakiram, Sharad Mathkar, Shaneen Parikh and VP Singh. He has also leased an office space in Saket to enter the Delhi market.
