Shardul Amarchand hires Bajaj Finance Chief Legal Officer Sapan Gupta as Banking & Finance Head

Sapan Gupta, the Chief Legal Officer of Bajaj Finance, is joining Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas as the firm’s National Head of Banking & Finance practice in its Mumbai office, reports ET.

Confirming Sapan Gupta’s joining to Bar & Bench, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas Managing Partner Pallavi Shroff said,

“Sapan coming on board is yet another step towards our philosophy of maintaining high standards for our clients.He brings with him a vast experience in the area”.

Commenting on his decision to move to Shardul Amarchand, Sapan Gupta said,

“A person with my experience needs an established law firm to adjust in the law firm environment and build my private practice. Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas gives me the platform and confidence to build a team and focus on the practice area.”

Gupta is a graduate of Delhi University and holds an LL.M. from Harvard Law School. He is dual qualified to practice in India and New York.

He joined Bajaj Finance in 2014 as their first legal officer after working with Standard Chartered for almost six years. He joined Standard Chartered in 2008 prior, to which he was working with Sidley Austin in New York. He has previously worked at HSBC India, ICICI Bank, and Tata Housing and Development.

Recently, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas had also hired AZB & Partners’ Equity Partner Shuva Mandal to head the firm’s M&A practice.
