Earlier this week, the Madras High Court saw the launch of three new facilities, implemented in pursuance of its E-Court activities.

Among the initiatives launched on Monday by Chief Justice AP Sahi was the the Justice Clock, a video wall installed to disseminate legal awareness and general information to litigants and the general public.

Installed near the Aavin (North) Gate (Gate no. 3) of the principal Bench of the Madras High Court, the Justice Clock will be used to display content relating to legal awareness, Lok adalat, legal aid programmes, jail adalat, famous quotes by judges, presentations concerning use of E-Court services, case statistics etc. A similar clock has also been installed at the main entrance of the Madurai Bench of the High Court.

With a similar view to create legal awareness, audio jingles have also been created. A decision to launch such an initiative was taken in October last year, to create awareness about the citizen-centric services offered under the E-Court projects. These audio jingles, which have been created in various languages including Tamil, will be broadcasted through FM Radio by the All India Radio in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Tirunelveli, Puducherry and Kodaikanal for three months on alternate days.

On Monday, the High Court was also informed of a Solar Panel initiative launched in various courts in Tamil Nadu.

In September 2017, the Union Department of Justice had sanctioned a sum of Rs 2,10,00,000 to procure solar panels for 14 court complexes in Tamil Nadu. A sum of Rs 1,61,84,272 was released for the commencement of this project initially, a press release informs.

Further it is informed that,

As on date out of the total 14 Court Complexes, Solar power panel installation has been completed in 10 Complexes i.e., Sivagangai (1 CC), Tirunelveli (2 CC), Virudhunagar (1CC), Thoothukudi (1CC), Kanniyakumari (1 CC), Pudukottai (1CC), Erode (1CC), Kancheepuram(1 CC ) and Nilgiris (1CC) and installation in the other 4 complexes is underway.”

It is also intimated that the courts have managed to save about 60% on electricity charges over a two month period following the installation of these panels.
