Item 1501 in Court No. 4 – Crl. A. 140-151/2012
Bench: Justices Arun Mishra and Vineet Saran
Judgment in appeals filed by CBI and State of Gujarat against the decision of Gujarat High Court which had acquitted the accused in the murder of former Gujarat Home Minister Haren Pandya. The High Court while acquitting the accused of murder had strongly criticsed the CBI for botching up the investigation.
The Court will also pronounce its judgment in a PIL filed by NGO Centre for PIL seeking fresh probe into the murder. The NGO had stated that it filed the petition due to “some startling information” that recently came to light, and was extensively reported by the media regarding Haren Pandya’s murder.

The plea seeks the constitution of a Court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the attack on old Durga Temple in New Delhi’s Chandni Chowk on June 30.

The plea pertains to Raghav Chadha’s challenge to the election of BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri from South Delhi in the 17th Lok Sabha Elections.

This is a plea filed by Vedanta challenging the closure of its Sterlite Copper Plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
Today in Court: Arguments were made by Senior Advocate Aryama Sundaram on behalf of Vedanta. The matter will be taken up next on July 16.

The concerns a plea made by Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Convict Nalini for the grant of parole to make arrangements for her daughter’s wedding. Nalini is expected to be produced in Court today to argue her case after the High accepted her request for the same last week.
Today in Court: The Court has granted Nalini 30 days ordinary leave subject to the compliance of parole conditions. Nalini appeared in person to argue her case. Public Prosector P Natarajan appeared for the state.
