Item no. 2 in Court No. 1 – WP(C) No. 329/2019
Bench: CJI Ranjan Gogoi, Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose
Two MLAs from Karnataka, one independent and one from KPJP Party have approached the Supreme Court seeking a direction that a floor test be conducted in the Karnataka Assembly within a specified timeframe.
The floor test was, however, held yesterday rendering the petition infructuous.
Today in Court: The Court refused to pass orders on withdrawal of petition in the absence of Senior Lawyers. The matter stood adjourned till tomorrow

A PIL initially filed with a plea to link Aadhaar with e-mail IDs and other online user accounts for easier detection of online crimes had led the Bench to query what measures were in place to counter such crime. To examine the matter, social media companies such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp etc have also been impleaded as parties. It was, however, clarified during earlier hearings that the Bench would not entertain the plea for linkage of Aadhaar.

This is a plea filed by Vedanta challenging the closure of its Sterlite Copper Plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
