The controversy arising from the title of the Netflix film ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ saw an end today before the Delhi High Court [Mahender Chaturvedi V/S Union Of India & Anr.]. .A Bench of Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav was told that producers of the move have decided to change the movie title. The Court was hearing a petition filed by one Mahender Chaturvedi seeking Court’s directions to stay the release of the film on Netflix. The Manoj Bajpayee starrer Netflix film has been mired in controversy over its title.Chaturvedi claimed that the title of the film, which loosely translates to 'corrupt pandit', is communally offensive and can cause harm to the dignity and reputation of the Brahmin community..The Court disposed of the matter with a remark appreciating the collective efforts of Netflix and Central government to resolve the issue. “The Court appreciates the stand taken by Netflix and Union. In view thereof, nothing more is required to be adjudicated. Disposed of. Petitioner’s grievance stands satisfied. If pursuant to proposed title of the film, if any action has been initiated, the same will have to be looked into with perspective of the statement given by Netflix and tand taken by the Union. The order can be brought to the notice of the authority where similar prayer is made,” the Bench said. .Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing for Netflix, earlier apprised the Court that the producers of the film have decided to change the title of the film to an alternative title that would more accurately reflect the film’s narrative and intent.Nayar submitted that the film is a reformative fictional police drama and the earlier title ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ had led to unintended interruptions which did not align with the content of the film.
