Victoria Gowri not opposed to "true love", only to "love jihad": Madurai lawyers in support of her elevation

Lawyers from Madurai have written to the Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and to Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul asking them to "ignore" the February 1 letter written by senior lawyers practicing before the Madras High Court questioning the proposed elevation of L Victoria Gowri..In one of the letters dated February 3, the lawyers have said that Gowri is serving as Deputy Solicitor General and has competently represented the Central government in several important matters before the Madurai Bench of the High Court.The signatories say that Gowri is "one of the right candidate" to "adorn the seat of Judge of Madras High Court.".Another letter says that the February 1 letter bringing to light "disturbing facts" concerning Gowri must not be given any significance, since the Constitution does not prohibit a lawyer from having affiliations with any political party. This letter also cites the example of legendary Supreme Court judge Justice VR Krishna Iyer, who was a Minister in the first Communist-led government in Kerala. "We are bringing to your Lordship notice that great jurist Justice VR Krishna Iyer was not only a member of the Communist Party, he was also a Minister of cabinet in the Kerala government, was elevated to the Kerala High Court, and to the honourable Apex Court," the letter reads. It further says that Justice Krishna Iyer never showed any biases towards any political party in his judgments..The Madurai lawyers insist that the February 1 letter, which had flagged some of Gowri's interviews and public statements where she had spoken against Muslims and Christians, was a result of "political vendetta" and animosity of those lawyers. They have also claimed that such statements attributed to Gowri have been taken out of context."...she is not against any religion Muslim or Christian and she has also having friends from both the religion. She has only attacked that there should not be any conversion on the false promise of love (love jihad)," the letter reads..In their February 1 letter, several lawyers of repute had written to the President of India saying that Gowri's elevation would cause much harm to the judiciary. The senior lawyers, including Senior Advocates R Vaigai, D Nagasaila and T Mohan, and Advocates NGR Prasad and V Suresh, have flagged problematic public statements and hate speeches made by Gowri against Muslims and Christians.In an interview from February 2018, titled More Threat to National Security & Peace?
