Will give specific dates for cases and make sure registry lists case on that date: Justice Surya Kant

Supreme Court judge Justice Surya Kant, who is slated to take over as the Chief Justice of India in May 2025, said on Friday that he will ensure that specific dates are given for listing of cases and will see to it that the court registry lists the cases on such dates.

In case the registry fails to do so, judicial notice will be taken, he added.

"Till I am in office, will always give dates to cases and see they are listed" "I will not allow the registry to do this. If cases are not listed on the date mentioned then we will take judicial notice," he said.

Justice Kant, who is sitting on vacation bench, had recently directed that a matter be listed the next day.

This was upon mentioning made by a Senior Counsel. However, since the vacation bench is not empowered to give such directions, the matter never got listed.

Justice Kant had then expressed his disappointment at that.
