<p style="text-align: justify;">Chief Justice of India (CJI) RM Lodha’s remark to a Senior Advocate raised quite a few eyebrows last Friday. The CJI was reproaching a senior lawyer for interrupting the arguments of another Senior Advocate.</p>.<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="line-height: 1.538em;">The incident took place before a Bench comprising the CJI and Justices Kurian Joseph and Rohinton Nariman.</span></p>.<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="line-height: 1.538em;">When the opposite counsel was arguing, the Senior advocate sought to intervene and make a submission that evidently did not go down well with Justice Lodha.</span></p>.<blockquote><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="line-height: 1.538em;">“You are designated Senior by the Supreme Court and not the Delhi High Court. You should behave more responsibly and not interrupt while another Senior is arguing”, remarked Justice Lodha. </span></p></blockquote>.<p style="text-align: justify;">The senior counsel to whom the remark was addressed to, chose not to reply.</p>.<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="line-height: 1.538em;">Chief Justice Lodha, who was elevated to the Supreme Court in 2008, is retiring on September 27 this week. </span></p>
