OP Jindal Global University (JGU) has set up a Chief Justices of India Museum on its campus in Sonipat, dedicated to the lives and legacies of those who have helmed the Supreme Court of India.
Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof (Dr) C Raj Kumar said,
"It is first of its kind, not only in India but, to the best of our knowledge, anywhere in the world."
He added that the museum builds on JGU's Constitution Museum and that together, the two initiatives create a space to understand the constitutional and judicial journey of the country.
An introductory note issued by the University said that the museum extends the Constitution's vision of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity by focusing on the Supreme Court's role in giving those ideals life through its jurisprudence, institutional leadership and commitment to constitutional governance.
Through judicial archives, landmark judgments, personal memorabilia, photographs, multimedia installations and stories of judicial courage, the museum aims to make this journey accessible to scholars, students and citizens alike. The note added that the museum is not merely a repository of judicial history but a space for understanding the ideas, institutions and individuals that have shaped the Republic's constitutional life.
Each Chief Justice, the note said, represents a distinct chapter in the evolution of India's constitutional democracy. The museum, it added, invites visitors not only to look back at the Supreme Court's history but also to reflect on the values that should guide its future.
"Universities have a special responsibility to preserve knowledge while nurturing constitutional understanding, critical inquiry and informed citizenship. In this spirit, the Museum of the Chief Justices of India seeks to become a lasting institution of learning, reflection and public engagement. Together with the Constitution Museum, it creates a unique intellectual and civic space in which the foundational document of the Republic and the institution entrusted with its interpretation can be understood in their historical, constitutional and human dimensions," the note added.
The new museum is the latest addition to JGU's cluster of judiciary-linked initiatives, which has drawn a string of senior judicial figures to the Sonipat campus. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant inaugurated the world's largest moot court, Nyayabhyasa Mandapam, on the campus in December 2025. At JGU's convocation in July this year, Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi described the Constitution Museum and the Chief Justices' Museum as institutions that make India's constitutional history accessible to future generations.
