The National Law Institute University, Bhopal (NLIU) is collaborating with the International Academy of Dispute Resolution (INADR) to host a mediation competition in India from February 16-19, 2012..The INADR, based in the United States, is an academy established to promote alternative dispute resolution methods as a substitute to conventional litigation. The academy has been hosting such competitions every year in Chicago and London for the past 11 years. This is the first time the competition is being held in India and is being sponsored by Indian law firm Khaitan & Co..Mediation is slowly emerging as a viable option to settle legal disputes. Keeping this in mind, the competition seeks to garner awareness and hone the requisite skills for mediation. The competition is expected to have more than 30 teams from various Indian law schools competing. NLIU will be handing out 10 awards and a total prize money of Rs. 1,20,000..The event, spanning four days, has begun today (16th February, 2012) with a to familiarize competitors with the nuances of mediation. Following which, 4 rounds will determine the winners. Every round will have a unique hypothetical problem and the teams participating will endeavour to reach a peaceful settlement. NLIU has roped in mediation experts, Richard Calkins, H.
