Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur (MPDNLU) has introduced a group health insurance policy for all its members (654 students and staff).

Under the initiative spearheaded by Vice-Chancellor Prof V Nagaraj, students and staff will be indemnified for day-care treatment, hospitalisation and domiciliary hospitalisation for all major illnesses including COVID-19, its variants and associated diagnostics expenses.

The insurance policy will cover 30 days of pre-hospitalisation and 60 days of post-hospitalisation procedures, up to an amount of ₹2 lakh.

Writing to Bar & Bench on what prompted this initiative, Prof Nagaraj said,

"Many students are studying on scholarships or loans with limited financial support. In case of urgency, when a student or staff member is hospitalized, the concern may be who will pay the bill, in order to avoid this, the insurance is taken."

Clarifying the beneficiaries of the group health insurance policy, Prof Nagaraj wrote,

"This covers only students and not their family members. Insurance for staff will cover their dependents as well."

This cashless facility can be availed by students at major approved hospitals in Jabalpur and those across the country.
