GNLU wins NALSAR-UNHCR Public International Law Moot Court

Gujarat National Law University emerged as the winner of the NALSAR-UNHCR Public International Law Moot Court Competition, 2021 organised by National Academy of Legal Studies and Research [NALSAR] in association with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR] from 15th May, 2021 to 16th May, 2021.

The winning team comprised of Keshav Somani, 3rd year, B.Com.LL.B. (Hons.) and Yash Khanna, 2nd year, B.B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) as the speakers and Sannidhi Buch, 3rd year, B.Com.LL.B.(Hons.) as the researcher.

The final rounds were judged by prominent legal luminaries in the field of international law including Aniruddha Rajput, B.S. Chimni, Sr. Adv. Menaka Guruswamy, Kiri Atri and Prof. DS Pattnaik.

This edition’s problem involved a mass refugee crisis owed to civil and political tensions in the hypothetical state of Mayzan. The primary question of law involved Nation States’ obligations in times of a refugee exodus. The dispute also required the questions on the nature of state responsibility in refugee crisis and State adherence to human rights treaties and conventions to be addressed.

The team from SASTRA Deemed to be University, Thanjavur got the runners-up title.
