Jamia Millia Islamia University finished as Semi-Finalists, in the 4th Surana & Surana & School of Law, Raffles University National Moot Court Competition, 2021-22.

They also emerged as Winners of the ‘2nd Best Memorial Award’ in the competition.

A team comprising of Aafreen Naaz, Mohd Fras Abbas and Sheenam Khan from 3rd Year represented the University.

A team member Mohd Fras Abbas was awarded the 'Best Student Advocate Award'. Speaking to the Apprentice Lawyer, Mohd Fras Abbas exclaimed, "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard". It was indeed because of the hard work of our team mates that we were able to achieve this feat. The moot proposition was very intriguing. It was a mixture of labour laws, drone rules and Constitutional law. Being awarded as the Best Student Advocate was a moment of immense happiness for me and was only possible because of the efforts and guidance of my lovely team mates, helping seniors and respected faculty members."

Speaking to the Apprentice Lawyer, Aafreen Naaz, a team member exclaimed, "The memorandum creates the first impression on the judges in a moot court. Drafting a good memorial is the key to success in a moot court competition. My mooting skills along with my drafting and formatting skills have improved to a great extent by participating in this moot court competition. I have also gained a lot of knowledge in a variety of legal topics. We dealt with different topics in the field of law, for example, Industrial Disputes, Employment Laws, Retrospective application of new laws, provisions governing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and constitutional provisions governing Freedom of Trade under Article 19 and Right to Privacy under Article 21."

The team also stated that finishing as 'Semi-Finalists' along with winning the award of '2nd Best Memorial' is indeed a moment of pride for them. This victory would not have been possible without the help of their seniors and professors.
