The Alumni Association of National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata recently launched a nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive for students and staff of their alma mater.

Aided by the student-run Alumni Cell, the Alumni body on June 12 funded a massive drive where mess, security, housekeeping workers and their families were vaccinated along with other unorganised sections of the University staff.

As per Aritri Roy Chowdhury, who is a 2016 NUJS graduate, a similar drive was conducted at Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad for others associated with NUJS.

The nationwide initiative started in Bangalore on June 5 with NUJS alumni and their families receiving the COVID-19 vaccine at the city's Vikram Hospital.

Nishant Beniwal, President of the Alumni Association, said,

“Our alumni network is spread across the entire country and beyond. Through this drive, we are trying to facilitate the vaccination process for all the members of the NUJS family.”

For the vaccination drive at NUJS, the organisers arranged pick-up facilities by private cabs for workers and their families from across the State. The cabs left as early as 4 AM to travel more than hundred kilometres to pick up the beneficiaries.

Current students from the University volunteered to call the workers and their families to assist them in registering on the CoWin App. Ankit Pal, the coordinator of the student-run Alumni Cell, said,

“They (the volunteers) also worked tirelessly to work out the logistics on the day of the vaccination in Kolkata.”

Apart from workers, even alumni, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students availed of the drive. The Alumni Association partnered with Fortis Hospital to vaccinate more than one hundred and fifty people at this drive.
