Project 39A at National Law University Delhi (NLUD) is accepting applications for its internship programme on a rolling basis till the month of October 2026. The last date to apply is June 15, 2026.
ABOUT PROJECT 39A
Project 39A, a premier centre at NLU Delhi, has been at the forefront of advancing the values of equal justice and equal opportunity, inspired by Article 39-A of the Constitution of India. Through rigorous empirical research, it engages with key issues in the criminal justice system, including legal aid, torture, forensics, mental health in prisons, and the death penalty, while contributing to evidence-based legal policy and systemic reform.

Death Penalty — litigation and research
Forensic Science — with particular focus on DNA forensics
Legal Aid — in the criminal justice system
Mental Health & Criminal Justice
Torture
Work undertaken includes research (fieldwork and empirical analysis) and litigation (pro bono legal representation for death row prisoners).
ELIGIBILITY
The internship is open to students enrolled in a recognised undergraduate or postgraduate programme in:
Law
Humanities & Social Sciences
Management
Media & Communications
Other disciplines (considered on merit)
Applications are welcome from students in India and abroad.
DURATION & MODE
Full-time internships: minimum 4 weeks, maximum 12 weeks
Part-time internships are considered but carry a minimum commitment of 12 weeks
Interns will be based at the Project 39A offices, NLU Delhi campus, Sector 14, Dwarka, New Delhi – 110078

Please Note:
Project 39A internships are unpaid. No stipend or financial remuneration is provided. Candidates are responsible for their own accommodation, travel, and living expenses.
Preference will be given to candidates applying for a period of 6 weeks or above.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Interns may be assigned tasks including:
Assisting with litigation activities
Contributing to research projects
Supporting public outreach initiatives
Social media branding and strategy
Administrative duties
While the organisation will endeavour to account for interns expressed interests, it reserves the right to allocate tasks as it deems fit. Interns are required to observe Project 39A's working hours and work from its offices only.
