The Arbitration & Conciliation Centre – Bengaluru, an initiative of the High Court of Karnataka, has invited online applications for appointment to five posts of Research Assistants on an honorarium basis.
In a notification dated April 27, 2026, issued by the Arbitration & Conciliation Centre – Bengaluru (Domestic & International), the Centre stated that the proposal to appoint Research Assistants was approved by its Board of Governors to encourage talented and qualified law professionals and provide them exposure to various facets of arbitration proceedings as a mode of alternative dispute resolution.
As per the notification, candidates applying for the posts must possess a law degree with a minimum aggregate of 50 per cent marks, must not have attained the age of 30 years as on the date of application, and must have enrolled as an advocate with the Karnataka State Bar Council. Applicants are also required to possess research and analytical skills, writing abilities, and knowledge of computer-based research and data retrieval systems.
Job description
The notification states that the selected Research Assistants will assist the Centre under the supervision of the Directorate.
Their duties include processing arbitration case records, compiling and organizing physical and electronic documents, conducting research on domestic and international arbitration laws, preparing research papers and newsletters, collating pleadings and records, addressing public queries relating to arbitration, maintaining databases and software entries, coordinating with arbitral tribunals, and undertaking other office work assigned by the Directorate.
The assignment will initially be for a period of one year, subject to renewal at the discretion of the Board of Governors of the Centre.
During the period of assignment, the selected candidates will receive a monthly honorarium of ₹40,000.
The notification further clarifies that the assignment is a full-time engagement and selected candidates will not be permitted to practise as advocates or undertake any other employment during the tenure. Candidates selected for the post are required to intimate the Karnataka State Bar Council regarding taking up the assignment.
The Research Assistants will also be required to maintain confidentiality in accordance with Section 42A of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, and shall not divulge any information relating to arbitration proceedings to third parties.
The Centre has also stipulated that candidates furnishing false information may face recommendation for proscription from practising as advocates, subject to the decision of the Karnataka Bar Council.
Further, candidates intending to quit the post must provide two months’ advance notice, failing which the remuneration may be withheld or recovered. The Research Assistants will be entitled to one day of casual leave per month with the approval of the Director of the Centre.
