Outlawed India and KSLSA launch Nyaaya Prayaana Fellowship to build legal aid network

OutLawed India Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation focused on enabling last-mile justice delivery, has launched the Nyaaya Prayaana Fellowship in collaboration with Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA). This partnership with KSLSA aims to train and deploy ASHA workers as paralegals.

Nyaaya Prayaana Fellows will travel across the length and breadth of Karnataka to lead Paralegal Volunteer (PLV) training and deployment. Fellows will work with District Legal Services Authorities, lawyers, police, NGOs, and others to weave a robust network of justice across the state.

Key responsibilities

Pre-training support

  • Conduct baseline assessments of selected PLVs

  • Coordinate with DLSA PLV supervisors and case mentors

  • Engage with local stakeholders (police stations, courts, hospitals, NGOs, and other stakeholders)

Training PLVs (4-day intensive program)

  • Practical legal-aid training modules

  • Delivered in Kannada

Deployment Support

  • Setting up legal aid desks in government offices

  • Establishing village-level legal clinics

  • Coordinating with police stations, courts, hospitals, and NGOs and other stakeholders

  • Case management and mentorship

Post-Deployment Handover

  • Prepare comprehensive handover plans for DLSAs

  • Conduct knowledge transfer sessions with district teams

  • Submit final reports and recommendations

  • Ensure sustainable continuation of PLV programs

PQE: 0-5 years

Location: Travelling fellowship with base in Bangalore

Qualification: 3- or 5- year law degree from a recognised university

Requirement: Bilingual fluency in speaking, reading, and writing English and Kannada

Remuneration: ₹6 lakhs per annum plus travel and accommodation across the districts.
