Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly has approached a Mumbai court with a domestic violence complaint against her husband Peter Haag, seeking compensation of ₹50 crore.
She has accused Haag of “continuous acts of abuse,” including cruelty, manipulation and physical violence and sought compensation for suffering, loss of income and property.
Apart from ₹50 crore as compensation, Jaitly has asked the Court to direct Haag to pay her ₹10 lakh per month as maintenance, restrain him from alienating the shared assets between them, return her jewellery and other possessions, and restrain him from entering the shared household.
The case came up for hearing on November 21 before a judicial magistrate in Andheri, who issued notice to Haag. The case will be heard next on December 12.
Jaitly and Haag got married in 2011 in Austria and have three children. In her plea, Jaitly has stated that Haag stopped her from working after marriage and robbed her of financial independence and dignity.
"He has systematically decimated the persona of the Complainant and has calculatedly hoodwinked her into giving him control of her assets and finances. He has taken advantage of her by pressurising her to transfer ownership of her residence at Mumbai to his name while she was undergoing severe depression after the death of her newborn child and both parents within a few months of each other," the complaint states.
Jaitly is represented by a team from Karanjawala & Co comprising Senior Partner Sandeep Kapur, Principal Associate Niharika Karanjawala Misra, Senior Associate Rytim Vohra Ahuja, as well as a Mumbai-based lawyer Arpan Rajput.
