Actress Lakshmi R Menon and others accused of abducting and assaulting an IT professional in August have moved the Kerala High Court seeking to quash the criminal case registered against them in the matter [Midhun Mohan v State of Kerala and connected matters]

Justice CS Dias briefly heard the matter today when the Public Prosecutor sought time to get instructions.

The case will be heard next on November 7.

The Court had previously granted the actress and two others accused anticipatory bail after the complainant in the case filed an affidavit stating that the dispute was amicably settled and that he did not wish to proceed with the case any further.

The case is tied to an altercation that reportedly broke out between the complainant - an IT professional - and the actress and her friends at a pub named 'Velocity' in Kochi.

The complainant alleged that Menon and her friends later intercepted his car, dragged him out of his vehicle and forced him into their vehicle where they assaulted him.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Menon and others allegedly involved in the incident under Sections 140 (2) (kidnapping), 126 (wrongful restraint), 296 (obscene acts), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS)

In her anticipatory bail plea, the actress had maintained that the allegations made against her were false and motivated and that she had no involvement in the alleged offences. After having secured anticipatory bail, she and others accused in the case have now moved the High Court to quash the case.

The actress and the others accused were represented by advocates Biju Balakrishnan, VS Rakhee, KJ Gisha, Akshaya S Nair and Jayakumar C.

Advocate Vivek Venugopal represented the de-facto complainant.
