A Kerala court on Wednesday restrained the makes of the recently released Kannada film 'Kantara' from playing the song 'Varaha Roopam' in the movie.

The Palakkad Principal District and Sessions Court passed the order on a suit for injunction moved by Mathrubhumi Music alleging copyright infringement of the song 'Navarasam'.

A report on Mathrubhumi said that the Sessions Court ordered the producer, director, music composer and streaming platforms from playing, streaming or distributing the song to the public, until further orders.

It further stated that notice was issued to Prithviraj Productions, music composer B Ajaneeshh Loknath, Amazon, Spotify, YouTube, Wynk Music, and Jiosavan.

Just last week,  the Principal District and Sessions Judge at Kozhikode had also passed an order of injunction on a copyright infringement suit moved by popular Kerala band Thaikkudam Bridge, who created Navarasam.

Released on September 30, 2022, Rishab Shetty's blockbuster Kannada movie Kantara, and its music composer B Ajaneeshh Loknath soon faced allegations of copyright infringement around the song 'Varaha Roopam'.

Thaikkudam Bridge, alleged that the song was a rip-off of one of its songs released over five years ago called 'Navarasam'.

Navarasam, which was released on the YouTube channel of Mathrubhumi Kappa TV 5 years ago, currently has around 62 lakh views.

Varaha Roopam, which was released on the YouTube channel of Hombale Films only 13 days ago, has already garnered 2.3 crore views.
