Supreme Court’s judge Justice Arun Mishra yesterday reportedly asked a physically challenged litigant to rise from his wheelchair and walk to the podium.
Advocate Namit Saxena tweeted the same from the Court yesterday.
The incident happened in court room 10 of the Supreme Court. Justice L Nageswara Rao was the other judge on the Bench.
The litigant had approached the Supreme Court in a Motor Accidents claim case. When the matter was heard on October 12, the Court had sought the personal presence of the petitioner Prem Kumar.
Kumar, who is a resident of Indore, had come to Court pursuant to the said order. He was seated in visitors’ section of the court room on a wheel chair, when Justice Mishra asked him to come to the podium.
According to Saxena’s tweets,
“the man could barely stand up on his legs, leave apart walking. His son almost had to drag him to the podium.”
The Court then proceeded to issue notice in the matter.
It is, however, not clear whether the man is permanently or temporarily disabled.
