CJP protests: Delhi court rejects legal head Ratna Singh's plea for FIR against police officials who detained her

A Delhi court on Saturday dismissed a plea filed by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) legal head Ratna Singh seeking her release from alleged illegal detention by the Delhi Police.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Abhinav Pandey of the Saket Court also rejected Singh's plea seeking an FIR against the police officers who detained her and stopped her from participating in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The Court said that Singh's application seeking an FIR was not maintainable in its present form as it lacked several details and was not supported by an affidavit. filed by were not maintainable.

On the application seeking release, the court said that a complaint "on oath" is a mandatory requirement to exercise that power for the court.

Therefore, the Court concluded that this application was also not maintainable.

The CJP had called for a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar today (October 10) seeking the resignation of  CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

Ratna Singh, who heads the CJP’s legal team, was among those detained bypolice ahead of the demonstration. The party said Singh and three other lawyers were detained without being informed of the grounds for the action.

In a video shared by the CJP, Singh alleged that police personnel had visited her residence in the morning and later surrounded her car. 

She claimed that when she asked whether they had any official notice, the personnel said they had received “orders from above”.
