Former Head Legal at Disney+Hotstar Amrita Mukherjee has resigned to join Meta as Director Legal, according to sources.
Mukherjee will be the legal head of the social technology company's Indian operations.
She has over 14 years of experience working in the media space. She had joined Star TV Network in 2008 as a Legal Manager. She rose through the ranks of the company to become Head Legal at Disney+Hotstar in 2015.
In 2015, she played a significant role in the launch of Hotstar, one of the largest OTT platforms. She has been part of Disney+Hotstar since its inception and has been responsible for managing the legal, regulatory affairs and driving the strategic initiatives for Disney+Hotstar.
She has also advised on all the bids and acquisitions of Sports rights for Disney+Hotstar including IPL Media Rights and BCCI rights for India matches.
During her time at Disney Star, she was also the legal lead for the portfolio of General Entertainment channels such as Life Ok (now Star Bharat), Star Jalsha, Star World and Star Movies.
Mukherjee is a 2002 graduate of Symbiosis Law School, Pune. Prior to joining Star Network in 2008, she has worked with multiple leading law firms including Talwar Thakore & Associates (TT&A) and Crawford Bayley & Co.
