Anand and Anand hires former IPAB member Lakshmidevi Somanath as Partner

With the onboarding of Somanath, the number of partners at Anand and Anand is now 33.

Anand and Anand has hired Lakshmidevi Somanath, a seasoned IP lawyer with over 23 years of experience, as a Partner in its Litigation and Strategy team.

Somanath is an alumnus of National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, and was a member of the now-defunct Intellectual Property Appellate Board (IPAB). She was a part of several landmark decisions, including declaration of Good Day as a well-known trademark and orders protecting prominent trademarks of RPG, HP, Red Bull and others.

She has represented clients as an arguing counsel in high-stakes cases involving significant jurisprudential questions in IP and constitutional law in the High Courts and tribunals.

In her career, she has litigated various IP legal issues, crafting strategic IP legal advisory, conducting IP audits, coordinating IP valuations, overseeing the filing and prosecution of numerous applications before the Indian IP offices, as well as international PCT and MADRID filings. She also advises on corporate IP strategy, IP monetization, IP contracts and agreements, well-known marks and other non-contentious legal issues surrounding IP commercialisation.

Currently, she is a PhD Scholar at IIT Kharagpur.
