Mohit Abraham, who was previously working with Uber co-founder and former Chief Executive Officer Travis Kalanick, is now joining Sequoia Capital as Chief Legal Officer, as reported by MoneyControl.

Prior to joining Kalanick-owned startup CloudKitchens in 2019, Abraham was the Director, Regulatory Affairs (North America) at Uber. He joined Uber in 2015 from Khaitan & Co.

Abraham began his career at the erstwhile Amarchand Mangaldas after graduating from NUJS Kolkata in 2005. He holds an LL.M. from Harvard Law School, and had topped the Supreme Court Advocate-on-Record exam in 2012.

He had practiced in the Supreme Court for two years and thereafter joined RDA Legal, which later became PXV Law Partners. PXV was later dissolved, with the partners joining Khaitan & Co.

Abraham joins Sequoia at a time when they are embroiled in a legal battle with Sequoia's former General Counsel Sandeep Kapoor.

Earlier this year, Sequoia had severed ties with Kapoor's law firm Algo Legal, after an investigation into a portfolio company revealed "concerning incidents".

Kapoor had subsequently filed a defamation suit before a Bengaluru court against the company as well as several media outlets. The matter is still pending.
