John B. Quinn, Co-Founder of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, is set to step down from his position of Executive Chairman of the Firm.

Quinn will remain a partner at the firm and retain the title of non-executive chair, allowing him to focus on promoting Quinn Emanuel and client development, the firm announced Sunday.

Co-managing partners Bill Burck and Mike Carlinsky, who have shared leadership responsibilities with Quinn since 2022, will continue running the firm day to day.

“We thank John for his tireless efforts over the last 40 years in building the world's leading disputes firm. John has been a great firm leader and lawyer, and it continues to be a privilege to be a part of this great firm,” Burck and Carlinsky said in a statement.

An alumnus of Harvard Law School, Quinn co-founded Quinn Emanuel in 1986 as a litigation-only law firm headquartered in Los Angeles. The Firm has grown to having over 1,300 attorneys in 35 offices across 12 countries.

With close to five decades of experience, Quinn's practice ranges across the full spectrum of business litigation cases, handling complex, high-stakes commercial litigation across the United States.

In 2024, Quinn was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Law by the Busan University of Foreign Studies, in Busan, Korea, for his contributions to the legal profession and his global impact on business litigation.
