The Delhi High Court on Thursday objected to the repeated adjournment requests by BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in his own petition to quash the sexual harassment case filed by women wrestlers against him.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma noted that the case was filed in August 2024, and till today, no arguments have been made.

“Why are you not arguing this? Since you filed this matter, it has not been argued even once,” the Bench told Singh’s lawyer.

The Bench made the remark as the counsel appearing for Singh sought an adjournment in the case owing to the unavailability of the senior lawyer.

While adjourning the case to April 21, the Bench clarified that there is no stay on the trial court proceedings against Singh.

A total of six wrestlers levelled sexual harassment allegations against Singh, a former Member of Parliament (MP) and ex-President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The Delhi Police registered an FIR against Singh after the wrestlers approached the Supreme Court.

On June 15, 2023, the police filed a chargesheet against Singh for offences under Sections 354 (outraging modesty), 354A (sexually coloured remarks), 354D (stalking) and 506(1) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In his plea, Singh has sought quashing of the entire proceedings, including the First Information Report (FIR) and the trial court order which framed charges against him

After hearing the case briefly, the Court today said that the reply filed by the complainant wrestlers will be taken on record. It also summoned the trial court records.
