The Delhi High Court has notified that the first and third Saturday of every month will now be official court sitting days.

This marks a shift from the established practice, where Saturdays were largely observed as holidays except in specific circumstances.

The decision was taken by the Full Court of the Delhi High Court in its meeting on December 22, 2025. The development was notified today.

The new directive builds on a 2025 arrangement, when the court had asked each Bench to sit on one Saturday per month to expedite the disposal of pending cases.

The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) had previously raised strong objections to such a Saturday working policy, saying lawyers were not consulted before it was introduced.

They had argued that it disrupted work–life balance and created logistical challenges, and had urged the court to either pause the arrangement or set a single fixed working Saturday for all Benches.
