Former Madras High Court Justice V Sivagnanam has been untraceable in Nepal since flash floods hit the country.

The Delhi Tamil Advocates Association has implored Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant to intervene and ask the government authorities to help trace the retired judge and facilitate his safe return to India.

In a letter written to the CJI on August 30, the bar body said that while fellow pilgrims were rescued, Justice Sivagnanam could not be reached.

He had last contacted his wife on August 26.

As per the letter,

"The persons travelling in another bus, who were rescued near the APF Nepal Border Outpost at Timure, have informed the family that Justice Sivagnanam’s bus was only about 100–200 metres away from theirs. The family and our Association are, therefore, gravely concerned about his safety and whereabouts."

Justice Sivagnanam had a career spanning 34 years in the judiciary.

After his retirement, he was designated Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court in July 2025.
