Former Delhi HC Chief Justice, Rajendra Menon appointed Armed Forces Tribunal Chairman

Former Delhi High Court Chief Justice, Rajendra Menon has been appointed Chairman of the Armed Forces Tribunal for a three-year term.

The Note issued to this effect by the Central Government on Saturday states,

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal for appointment of Justice (Retd.) Rajendra Menon, former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, to the post of Chairperson, Armed Forces Tribunal in the pay scale of Rs 250000/- (fixed) for a period of 03 years w.e.f. the date of assumption of charge of the post, or till attaining the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.

Justice Menon had been recommended to the post earlier this year, as informed by Attorney General KK Venugopal before the Supreme Court during a hearing concerning the appointment of members to Armed Forces Tribunal.

Justice Menon had retired from his post as Delhi High Court Chief Justice in May this year, a little over a year after he was appointed to helm the High Court in August 2018.

He was elevated as an additional judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on April 1, 2002. He was made permanent judge of the High Court on March 21, 2003. Justice Menon also served as Welfare Commissioner for the Bhopal Gas Victims Compensation Commission between December 2010 and March 2015. He was elevated as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on March 15, 2017, and remained at the post till his transfer to the Delhi High Court.
