Gujarat High Court to work on Saturdays to hear criminal appeals pending for over a decade

Special Division and Single-judge benches will be constituted from July to October.

Bar & Bench

The Gujarat High Court has said that it will constitute special benches on working Saturdays to adjudicate criminal appeals pending for over 10 years and in cases where the convicts have been jailed for more than a decade.

Special Division and single-judge benches will be constituted from July to October to deal with these cases.

“The Criminal Appeals will be listed before the Special Benches on Saturdays, irrespective of whether the said matters are already fixed or adjourned to another date. This will be done by preponing or postponing the date assigned by the Hon'ble Courts/System-Generated next listing date,” the Court said.

These appeals will be notified as “Targeted Matters”, and the corresponding cause list will be published one day prior to the next working Saturday in accordance with the arrangement of the special benches, the High Court added.

“The Criminal Appeals will be notified excluding the 100 oldest matters, which will continue to be listed every Wednesday under the heading: "WEDNESDAY WEEKLY LIST (WWL) OF '02.07.2025'.”

As part of this move, nine Division Benches and three single judges sat and heard cases on July 5.
