The hearing in the Ayodhya case in Supreme Court could turn out to be the second-longest ever in the history of the Supreme Court of India.

According to a time schedule submitted by the parties setting out the time required to complete the arguments in the matter, the hearing in the matter could last till October 18.

“Let us make a joint effort to complete it by October 18”, CJI Ranjan Gogoi remarked during the hearing today.

Currently, the Aadhaar case is the second-longest hearing ever to have happened in Supreme Court

Today was the 26th day of hearing in the Ayodhya case. If the hearing in the matter lasts till October 18 as expected, it would mean that the hearing in the case would have lasted for 42 days. That would be four days more than the Aadhaar case which was heard for 38 days.

However, the case of Kesavanand Bharati v. State of Kerala continues to hold the top spot for the longest hearing ever to have taken place in Supreme Court. It was heard for 68 days. Hearing in the Kesavananda Bharati case commenced on October 31, 1972, and concluded on March 23, 1973.
