The Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association at Jammu (JKHCBAJ) on Thursday announced a complete strike on Friday, November 21, in protest against the recent enforcement of the Jammu and Kashmir Tenancy Act, 2025 and other issues affecting the legal fraternity.

In a statement issued by General Secretary Pardeep Majotra, the Association expressed deep resentment over certain provisions of the new Tenancy Act, terming them “contrary to the welfare and interests of advocates.”

The JKHCBAJ stated that despite repeated representations, its long-pending demand for construction of a multi-storey building for the Bar continues to remain unaddressed.

The Association also raised concern over reported moves to shift the traffic courts from the current court premises, calling it another step that undermines the interests of lawyers and disturbs the professional atmosphere.

As a mark of protest, the Bar has decided that all members will abstain from work completely on November 21 and has urged all judicial forums including the High Court, District Courts, CAT, Revenue Courts, Tribunals and Commissions not to pass adverse orders in matters listed for that day.

A strong protest demonstration will also be held at 12:00 noon on Friday at the District Court Complex, Jammu. The Association has appealed to all advocates to participate in large numbers, asserting that the Bar Association stands united in safeguarding the interests of the legal profession.

The Bar has urged the government to roll back the Tenancy Act, 2025 or make necessary amendments after due consultation with stakeholders. It has further warned that failure to address these issues may compel the association to adopt “more coercive measures” in future.
