Justice Govind Mathur of the Rajasthan High Court has been transferred to the High Court of Allahabad.

A Government notification bearing today’s date has directed that Justice Mathur assume office at the Allahabad High Court on or before November 22, 2017.

The notification states,

“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice Govind Mathur, Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, as a Judge of the Allahabad High Court and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Allahabad High Court on or before 22nd November, 2017.”

Justice Mathur recently drew attention for having reportedly criticised the  proposed Rajasthan Criminal Amendment Bill as being an attempt at shielding hopeless officials in the government.

The Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill, 2017, which has now been referred to a select committee of the state assembly, seeks to protect public officials and judges from prosecution without government sanction. The Bill also, inter alia, bars media coverage on accusations of any wrongdoing by such persons until the government sanctions a probe.
